To recognize unusual contributions to the public service and to the improvement of government at all levels by both government employees and private citizens.
Specific objectives
To honor career civil servants for significant contributions to public agencies and to the state and community in which they live,
To recognize civic leaders and private citizens for their contributions to the improvement of the Public Service at the Federal, State and Local Levels; and
To encourage all officials and employees in government to pursue standards of excellence in the performance of their official duties and, in addition, to recognize their responsibilities as citizens to engage in constructive activities outside of the immediate responsibilities of their positions.
Concomitant values of NMDPSA
To promote public appreciation of the quality of people in public service; and
To encourage outstanding young people to seek careers in the public service.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria
Those eligible to compete for awards are:
Employees of City, County, or State Gov ernment and Indian tribes in New Mexico, excluding elected officials;
Federal employees assigned duty sta tions in New Mexico;
Employees of the scientific laboratories in New Mexico;
